  • Ocean Perspectives on the Fossil Fuel Phase-Out

    This pre-conference workshop addresses a critical gap in global climate discussions: offshore oil and gas. The workshop will provide a focused, structured space to examine offshore oil and gas within the broader transition agenda through an ocean and coastal lens. Bringing together civil society leaders, ocean stakeholders, and policy experts, it will explore how offshore considerations can be integrated into emerging global frameworks and policy processes, aligned with the Conference’s three core thematic pillars.   • Global Science & Policy Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels

    The Academic Dialogue of the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels is a two-day Pre-Conference convening leading scholars, policy innovators, analysts, and advocacy organisations to advance cutting-edge, interdisciplinary and policy-oriented research on the demand- and supply-side phase-out of fossil fuels. The outcomes will directly inform the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels convened by the governments of Colombia and the Netherlands.

  • People's Summit for a Fossil Free Future

    The People’s Summit for a Fossil Free Future is a space where movements come together to build power from the ground up, bringing together a global coalition of organisations, frontline communities, Indigenous Peoples, workers, youth, and climate justice advocates. Common principles, demands, and a People’s Roadmap for fossil fuel phaseout will be discussed over 3 days through a collective, movement-led process. These unified positions will then be carried into the Assembly of the People held by the government of Colombia on April 27, and eventually the High Level segment on April 28-29, ensuring that the voices of civil society don’t just speak alongside the decision makers, but actively help shape the decisions.

Part networking space, part co-working zone, part watch party, the Hub is where we will welcome our diverse network of allies and advocates of a Fossil Fuel treaty to follow the High Level discussions in real time, exchange ideas, and build momentum. Expect an open, flexible environment with coffee and snacks and room for spontaneous conversations, pop-up discussions, and new alliances to take shape.   • La Chiva Climática – Itinerant Workshop on Solutions for Climate and Territory

    Organiser: Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Colombia (FESCOL)

    La Chiva Climática will arrive in Santa Marta to develop its itinerant methodology through two tours involving community and popular processes in the territory. Similarly, La Chiva will be installed in a physical space open to the public in Santa Marta. In both spaces, the focus will be on the exchange of knowledge, intergenerational dialogue, and political imagination in favor of a truly fair and inclusive energy transition. C. Public action and communication strategy

    The inputs gathered during the virtual meetings and field visits will be translated into visible public action during the citizen mobilization on April 27. Within this framework, a banner and posters will be collectively created to convey the visions for the future developed in the previous spaces. At the same time, a communications strategy will be used to raise the profile of the messages developed and the initiative itself.

  • How to overcome the debt crisis and turbocharge a just transition

    With its three pillars connecting energy systems with economic dependence and international governance, the Santa Marta Conference rightly identifies historically high debt, loan-based climate finance, and Global South countries’ structural subordination in the global financial system as key barriers to a just transition away from fossil fuels.

    This interactive event will highlight concrete steps to break out of the debt-fossil-climate vicious cycle. It brings together international experts on economic and climate justice from civil society, the UN, and national government to highlight how the debt-fossil fuel trap plays out in practice, what actions are needed to undo it, and which institutions need to be part of the solution.

    The finance roadmap for transitioning away from fossil fuels must include aligning both private and public sector financing with the goals of the Paris Agreement and delivering a just clean energy future. This event will explore what financial architecture and reforms are needed to deliver a fast, fair, funded and durable global phase down and out of fossil fuels, emphasizing the role that governments need to play on restructuring public finance flows and regulating the private finance sector while adhering to human rights frameworks and forest protection and land use safeguards. The event will also highlight the importance of including commitments on public and private finance in a Fossil Fuel Treaty, effectively binding governments to regulate the financial streams to fossil fuels within their jurisdictions.

  • Health and Climate: Structural elements from the health sector for the phase-out of fossil fuels

    This event will convene stakeholders engaged in the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels to co-develop messages on the health sector’s role in supporting a just and equitable transition. It will position the health sector as a key contributor to the progressive phase-out of fossil fuels, highlighting the associated health co-benefits, the value of resilient health systems, and the sector’s contribution to an inclusive, evidence-based transition.

    The program will feature case studies followed by moderated discussions to identify key insights, lessons learned, and practical recommendations. The event aims to foster focused exchange among participants and to deliver clear, actionable messages to inform the conference.

    Join in presence or online this forum of discussion on the urgency of just energy transition, analyzing the fossil fuels’ phase-out from a situated perspective. Taking the Amazon and the Arctic as iconic regions of transformation, the dialogue transcends the local to explore "Yasunization" as a global phenomenon of social mobilization generated by a multitude of grassroots initiatives. The role of geovisualization tools in mapping the multitudes and narratives driving this change is explored. Through a panel of researchers and activists, the tensions between extractive policies and community-based alternatives will be discussed, highlighting how visual data can strengthen political advocacy and environmental justice in diverse territories that are shaping these transitions. The forum contributes to the feedback process for the "Atlas of a Just Transition from Fossil Fuels" and the "Dictionary of Climate Justice Practices for the Fossil Fuel Transition."

    On 24 April, whilst the world gathers in Santa Marta to consider the end of the fossil fuel era, the Fracking-Free Colombia Alliance invites the press to the first meeting with Yuvelis Morales Blanco, recently awarded the 2026 Goldman Prize —known as the “Environmental Nobel”— for her leadership in defending the Magdalena River against the arrival of commercial fracking in Colombia.
